My nephews are coming

It's finally settled, they are coming next Thursday for 1 week. No Father. No Mother. All by themselves. Just me and David in charge. Now, the planning begins. We want to do different things than we've done in the past. But a good time will be had by all.

I hope you guys like Kraft Mac n' Cheese ;-)

Arrrrrrrrrr, me nuts

Saw Pirates last night. LOVED it. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Art direction, costumes, special effects were all amazing and the performances by my man Depp and my other man Bloom were a lot of fun to watch. Per a Dr friend of us, most of it was filmed in Dominica. Pretty place. I'm sure they totally destroyed it though. But whatever, it was worth it! I love love love Davy Jones and his crew. Very, very creative. But I must admit I was a little confused as I didn't pay much attention to the first one. Maybe we'll rewatch it today to refresh our memories.

After watching all those tentacles we had a craving for some octopus so we headed over to Hell's Kitchen to Uncle Nick's for some grilled baby octopus, taramosalata and greek salad. Damn I love that tasty greek food. Opa!

NYC Storms

The storms we are having this Summer are crazy. Really crazy. Where one minute it'll be bright n sunny n cheery and 30 seconds later dark n stormy n thundery. And the lightning. Oh the lightning! I'm a huge fan of it, but only when indoors. Not outdoors like earlier this week when a storm from nowhere attacked us as we were leaving the Philharmonic in Central Park. I really felt as if I were running for my life as we ran to catch a bus to save us from the deluge from above.

In Miami the lightning was madness. Middle of the night, wake you up, crashing down right next to your house madness. And usually on a daily basis. But I loved it!

As much as I like the storms I would like a little break so I can get to the beach already!

Crocs

Is it me, or are these the ugliest things around since Uggs? Yeesh! Why oh why do people insist on wearing these hideous things? And they don't look the least bit comfortable either.

World Cup Final

Got up good n' early yesterday (10AM!!) to get to the Beer Garden in time for the World Cup final. Got there at exactly noon and the line was around the block! But since the place is enormous we were able to score a table, albeit a small one, right near one of the TV screens. Then we waited. Lines to get in, lines for beer, lines for food. Bah. But waiting an hour for that tasty kielbasa is so worth it. Mmmmm, beer and sausage for breakfast-what could be better?

The game was awesome, if you are an Italy fan, but I do wish it wasn't decided by penatly kicks. But we all had great fun watching and cheering with everyone. I loved the stupid ass headbutt that probably lost France the game. What a dummy! Some girl was wearing a homemade Zidane shirt and right after the headbutt promptly put on a sweater and covered it up in shame. Awww, poor thing. But that's what you get when you can't keep your anger in check you fool! No cup for you!

Afterwards headed over to Elias' Corner for some tasty Greek food and then onto Athens Cafe for some tasty greek frappe's and zeus' balls. Mmmmm, tasty doughnuts nestled in a pool of honey syrup. Nice way to end the awesome day.

Viva Italia!!!

My New England Vacation (or, How much fried food can I eat in one wknd?)

Back from the Cape. Weekend was a nice getaway. We will start with Friday's debacle to get that out of the way...

So I left early from work (1pm) to meet David at the car rental. Got there a little late as catching a cab was difficult, no David, so I got in line. Got the car, still no David. Checked voicemails, no David. Since I couldn't sit there in my car as this is an active street, I decided to drive around and around the block in hopes of eventually seeing him waiting for me at the car rental so we could get on our way. Traffic was horrendous and it took me almost 30 minutes to go around the block! When I got back to the car rental STILL no David. Ok, now I'm getting nervous. No voicemails, over and hour late, nothing. I called Matthew, he hadn't heard anything. I decided to get out of the car and walk around the car rental office. In my twisted mind I thought something bad must've happened. I decided he was either (a)Stuck in the subway for an hr, (b)Ill and had to be taken to the hospital, (c)hit by a bus, (d)stuck in either a bathroom with a faulty door or an elevator that won't move. But luckily none of these ended up being the actual scenario. For when I parked the car and started walking towards the car rental office, I heard someone honking their horn like a crazy person. I turn around, and who is it but my husband! That's right folks, he ALSO rented a car-UNDER THE SAME RESERVATION NAME/# AS I DID. WTF!?! I turned around, and instead of me smiling and being happy to see him, I went into a screaming rage. "WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU? WHY DIDN'T YOU CALL? AND WHY THE HELL DO YOU HAVE A CAR? I HAVE A CAR YOU DUMMY!!" Now, most of this yelling was out of my being upset and thinking the worst. But still. You'd think after an hr and a half he would've at least called me! But nooooo. It just all didn't make any sense. I ALWAYS make the reservation! I ALWAYS pick up the car! It's ALWAYS ME! Anyhoo, after an explanation, and an apology on Budget's part as they DID screw up by letting us BOTH rent cars under the same name, we returned the extra car, and we finally picked up Matthew and were on our way.

The wedding was lovely. The only day where the weather was truly gorgeous. And everything went just as the bride/groom had wanted. But, alas, I have no pictures, as we were FORBIDDEN to take any per the bride's wishes. I must admit, it was difficult to not take any. But it was her day, so we obliged. Ceremony was beautiful outside in the great outdoors at The Stevens Estate. Songs were sung by a local female singing group (James Taylor and Indigo Girls). It was all very sweet and heartfelt. Following the ceremony we all went to the estate for cocktails, then into the tent for the reception which consisted of tasty bbq steak, chicken, corn, potato salad, etc. Afterwards everyone changed and you could either swim, bocce or volleyball. We chose to volleyball and had a great time. In all it was wonderful day spent with a lot of family that we don't get to see too often.

Sunday we went into Boston for lunch with my Mom/Fred and Shaina/Ira. It was hot and sticky and uncomfortable so after lunch we bid farewell and continued onto the Cape.

Cape was nice but not what I expected. I guess I expected it not to be so big and populated. More salty marshes than McDonalds. But it was what it was so we made the best of it. Our room was lovely and private. Monday we took the ferry to Nantucket. Lovely island, really pretty town with cobblestone streets, but way too many preppies there. I mean, how many sweaters tied around the neck and polo can one see in a day? We rented bikes and rode around the island. It's pretty but honestly folks, Block Island is MUCH prettier (see above banner picture). Every garden, every house, every street, every tree in Nantucket is PERFECT, but do we really need so much perfection in our lives? Maybe I'm just really biased, but I like the rusticness and scenic beauty of BI much more. And it's also much less pretentious. But still, we had a great time and I would recommend it to most. It is a unique place. Just bring lots of cash.

Tuesday we drove to Chatham for the day. Cute little town with a nice little beach. Had lunch, best lobster roll ever said David, and watched the AMAZING Germany/Italy game. Hot damn those Italians were impressive. Let's see how they do this Sunday. Watched a local baseball game, had some dinner and went back to our inn.

Wednesday we checked out and went on a whale watching tour! Finally, I was able to see my whales that I have been dying to see forEVER. Weather was crappy and rainy but, armed with my Dramamine, I was gonna see some damn whales. We ended up seeing somewhere between 12-15 humpbacks and a few Finback whales! It was quite an eventful trip. They are truly amazing creatures. Blowing bubbles, flipping around in the water, sticking their heads out and squealing. Really, really cool. I must for anyone in the area.

So now we are back. I am at work, but only physically. At least it's only a two day workweek for me. I will post pictures once I figure out where my USB cord for the camera has dissapeared to.

Now the countdown for Block Island begins...38 days and counting...
