Had a great birthday weekend with David. Food, food and more food.
Saturday night we went to Gascogne with Henry, Sarah/Larry and Matthew. Sat in the back garden which felt like we were in a different world. Great foie gras. Yummy wine. Gascogne never dissapoints.
Sunday the family came in and we had dinner at one of our favorite Italian places Gennaro. Amazing northern Italian food, reasonable prices. Everyone loved their food. Lamb and laughs was had by all.
Monday we both took off of work to celebrate David's 32nd year. What a crappy day. And whats with NOTHING being open on Mondays? No museums, no stores. We went all the way over to West Chelsea to an old favorite Wild Lily Tea Room on 22nd btwn 10th and 11th Ave. CLOSED. WTF?? So annoying. But we did manage to swing by Billy's Bakery which has been voted as having the #1 cupcake in NYC. I was skeptical at first. I am a diehard Magnolia fan. But let me tell you, Billy's IS the best. Perfect ratio of frosting to cake. Moist, but not so moist that it sticks to the paper. It was perfect! Bye bye Magnolia and long lines.
Monday night I had made reservations at Gramercy Tavern for the main birthday dinner, just the hubby and I. OH...MY...GOD. Sooooo good. Sooooo good. We took a cab from our apt and drove right through Central Park. I so rarely go through the park and it was beautiful. A light rain was falling. There was barely anyone there except for a few runners. Just breathtaking.
Arrived at the restaurant. We were seated immediately which was nice. I was impressed right off the bat. Our waiter was an Aussie! G'day mate! We decided to get the chef's tasting menu, always a good choice for a special occasion. We also got a different 1/2 glass of wine with each course.
The food was amazing. But even more amazing is we can't really remember what we ate. We got a little more liquored up than we anticipated. But the whole evening was perfect and the dinner lasted about 3 1/2 hrs. I do remember the waiter bringing out a cheese board with about 20 different cheese to choose from (he even gave us an extra slice since it was a special occasion. oh yeah-I got the Aussie hook up!)
We we brought 2 desserts. Then a plate of cookies with Happy Birthday written in chocolate. A very memorable, special night.
