Baby Steps

I've discovered iMovie! This is something I posted earlier but David has reedited it. I can't believe it's been on my Mac all this time and I never realized it. So much fun to play around with. Now we need to get a quality video camera to take clips of Sophie.

Sophie Learns to Boogie (new & improved)

Look ma, no hands!

As of last night Sophie is now sitting up on her own. Things are moving too fast. Slow down Sophie!

Back to the daily grind

So let's see-what have I been up to lately? A LOT! Last week I began working from home. On Wednesday I went into the office for a day. Luckily my Mom was in town and was able to watch Sophie for the day, which of course she loved. It was great that they got to spend the day together. Sophie even had her first lunch at Tavern On The Green. But instead of crabcakes she had a bottle.

Sophie turned the big FIVE MONTHS last week too. So hard to believe she's almost half a year old. Our little Pumpkin is growing up way too fast. Her main goal in life these days is the following two things:

1)To Crawl-she can get into the crawl position and move backwards, but can't seem to move the hands with the legs at the same time. Still, she can easily get around by rolling and will be 4 feet away from where I put her down in a matter of seconds. She also sits up leaning on one arm as you see in the pic.

2)To Chew-She will put anything and everything into the mouth-I mean anything. When I give her a toy now she no longer grabs at it with her hands. She now accepts all toys with an open mouth. Her foot has also found it's way in there as of today.

Consequently, I have decided to buy her Sophie the Giraffe as a chew toy. I don't remember where I heard about it but apparently the little horns on Sophie's head (the giraffe, not my Sophie) are very soothing to chew on. And it's so damn cute! Problem is it's made in France. But nothing good ol' ebay couldn't solve.

We have also decided on a nanny and sent the offer letter out. Now I just hope she chooses us. She was really great with Sophie and best of all she is a Trini like David. Once she starts I will be going into the office 3 days a week which I think will work out fine. It's really hard working from home and watching her so I think the balance of working in the office and working from home will be perfect for us.

Oh and this Fall weather-LOVE IT. Crisp and sunny and breezy and just absolutely delightful.

Date Day

Today was our "date day". Shaina came over to watch Sophie and gave us each an hour massage at the place of our choice. We started off with bagel sandwiches at Lenny's, then took the bus down to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix at the only theatre still playing it in Manhattan. Got there for the last of the trailers and immediately noticed the main center speaker cutting on and off. We complained as did others and nothing was done. Then the movie started and the sound mess continued, so David went to complain again and they said they were working on it. About 15 minutes into the movie the lights turned on and the movie was brought to a screeching halt. An usher appeared and said they ar aware of the problem and will offer us free tickets if we want to leave or we can stay and also get free tickets. Um, yeah, we'll stay. This is the first movie we've seen in six months and I'll be damned if I miss it! Luckily the speaker did fix itself and we were able to hear the rest of the movie. Not a good thing though, as the movie totally SUCKED. Now, I've read the book, I know the story, but I still had no idea what the hell was going on! It was a jumbled mess of one to two minutes cut scenes that made no sense. Terrible dialogue, poor use of the main characters, major plot points changed or left out completely. Bah, what a screw up. It felt like a long trailer of snipets of a movie. And I think this guy is directing the next one too. Damn, damn shame.

Afterwards David and I walked down Broadway holding hands. I realized that this is the first time we've held hands since Sophie was born! One of us is usually pushing the stroller. It actually felt kind of strange. But also very nice. It's been quite awhile since it was just the two of us.

We then headed over for our massages at Graceful Spa. We were set up in a couple room and had wondeful one hour full body massages. Here they use all their body parts to massage. Hands, elbows, knees. They even get up on the table! But very relaxing with soothing music, nice hot towels afterwards. Just lovely. Thank you Auntie Shaina!

We finished off with mussels, fries and yummy Chimay beer at Bruxells in the Village with Shaina and Sophie. Yummy stuff.

Last Day

Today was my last day of maternity leave. So sad. How did the Summer fly by so fast? The Summer of Sophie. My sweet baby will be five months next week. Crazy stuff. So how did I spend my last day of unemployment? I slept! I took a really nice two hour nap while Sophie slept her usual morning super nap. It was pure bliss. Since Sophie was born I have yet to have a really restful nights sleep. Even though she sleeps through the night, and has been for months now, I don't! I constantly wake up for reasons unbeknowst to me. I guess I'm just a tad bit worried that I won't hear her crying through the monitor. I ALWAYS wake up at 4:30am, then again around 6am-right before she wakes for a bottle. Even days where David feeds her (the occassional weekend day) I will still wake up throughout the night and lay awake while he gets up to feed her. I just don't get it. But anyhoo, that nap today was damn nice. Probably the last nap like that I will have in quite a long time.

Later in the day we went to Central Park and I let her roll around and practice her semi crawling on the grass. Poor thing gets so frustrated that she can't really get anywhere. But before we know it she'll be all over the place I'm sure.

Interviewed two nannies so far. One excellent, one not so much. The excellent nanny made us feel so at ease. I feel like I could leave Sophie with her today and not worry one bit. She's a little pricey but I think worth it. Anything for my baby girl. I'm going to miss her so. It's crazy how I took all this time I had with her for granted, felt like I had all the time in the world. We really have to treasure every minute.

Block Island '07

Returned Sunday night from Block Island. As always we had a fabulous time. The house this year was really something special-right on the ocean. Sunrises, moonrises, just amazing. So beautiful to wake up to the ocean view surrounding us, and the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach. I must admit it was a bit of work toting Sophie around everywhere but she was a good girl and seemed to enjoy all the new surroundings. So sad to be back home and see Summer end. My Summer with Sophie went by so fast.

Here are some pics of our week out there. Weather was perfect. Beaches were great but a bit rocky and/or wavy. Wonderful memories of a great time spent with our friends. Some photos are of the full moon rising over the ocean and some of the sunrise. And of course, lots of baby Sophie!
