Venting

So I guess I haven't really talked about how I'm feeling during this first trimester, which I might add, seems to go on F-O-R-E-V-E-R. We went to the Dr on Tuesday for my monthly checkup (Friday's ultrasound was at the hospital for the Nuchal Translucency Test). I told him how on Friday they measured that I should be 13 weeks by now, but he disagreed and said the measurment he first took at 8 weeks is more accurate. I beg to differ. But he is the doc so I obliged. The due date stands at April 7, 2007. I am now 12 weeks 5 days.

Can I just say that I can't WAIT for the second trimester to begin. The nausea, the extreme tiredness-so much so that sometimes I wonder how I'm going to make it across the street, the heartburn/indegestion, the constipation, the gas pains, the bloating, the crankiness, just everything! I told David that whatever you don't want, you get more of in pregnancy. But I know it's all for the greater good of having a little one so I will do what I have to do.

The thing that I think I hate the most is the constant peeing! I must get up 3 to 4 times a night to go. I NEVER wake up in the morning feeling rested. David said it will get better. No I told him, I will not sleep from now until that child is past the toddler stage. It's all downhill from here as far as sleep is concerned.

The symptoms began to subside end of last week. I was thrilled! I finally thought I will begin to really enjoy the pregnancy. But then this Monday BAM! it's back. More tiredness and nausea than EVER. What the hell? At least I've never gotten to the point where I've gotten sick like some women. I guess it aint so bad after all. And my belly is showing a little (already wearing maternity stuff!) so that is good news. Thankfully I loaded up on stuff from Target and Old Navy over the weekend. Gotta love 'em!

Early Shopping

I know it's too early to shop. I know I should wait. BUT, I have a certain friend who is the C.O.O. of a certain online babystore who can get me stuff at cost. The catch is he is only there for another week, as that person has resigned. So, since everyone ELSE on the Upper West Side has a Bugaboo, and I gotta keep up with the crowd, I too have now purchased one (courtesy of my Mom). BUT, we got it at cost. HA!

Very exciting stuff indeed.

The Charm

I've always heard that the third time is the charm. I never really knew where it came from or why. I googled it and found some vague meaning from England long ago that could or could not be right. But anyway...

I'm pregnant! Not just pregnant-but 12 weeks and 3 days pregnant. Pregnant as in we're really going to have a baby pregnant. Pregnant as in we saw the baby on the ultrasound this morning and it looks perfect!

Oh what a wonderful day. I was so nervous at the appointment. The ultrasound tech put it on my belly and immediately we could see the image and see that the baby was a good size! It was just amazing. The heart was beating so rapidly. She measured and the baby was 12 wks 3 days! Even bigger and further along than we thought! The tech kept pushing and jiggling my belly to make the baby move. After a few tries she/he finally squirmed! The baby was cranky and flailed it's arms then turned over so we could see the spine. So unbelievably amazing. We are overjoyed. Finally my time has come. I thought I might never get to this point.

Family

So the family is in town this weekend. The Brother arrived this afternoon. He's off doing the happy hour thing with a friend. The Mother and her Husband arrive in about a half hour, but I won't see them until Saturday morning at Rosh Hashanah services. On Sunday I get to see the cousins and my Father's girlfriend who is here from Australia. Should be a nice weekend of little reunions.

But first I need to get through tomorrow. More on that soon.

New Dresser

After waiting over a year we have FINALLY ordered a new dresser at Room & Board. It was much more money than we wanted to spend, but it's the only dresser with the dimensions we need. Since our bedroom is small, we couldn't get one that was more than 15" deep. And almost ALL dressers are a standard 20" or more. But it's really pretty. A nice deep, dark solid walnut. Silver hardware. The only difference from the one in the pic is ours has a dark metal bottom rather than the shiny one shown.

So we bought it last Saturday. The gift card from my brother and my "Employee of the Quarter" $100 Amex gift card helped ease the pain of the price though.

Now we gotta wait 6 weeks for it to arrive. We can't wait!

Final day of Summer

On Sunday we decided to go to Jones Beach for one last Summer hurrah. We weren't expecting it to be exceptionally warm, just a nice Summer day to play some shuffleboard or mini golf or maybe sit on the sand and watch the waves. But to our surprise it was beautiful out! So beautiful that in fact we all changed into our bathing suits and swam! The warm was swimable (I never say warm b/c, coming from Miami, these Northerners don't really know what WARM water is). We all went in for a good amount of time until the sun starting getting low and the air a little chilly. Oh the joy of getting one last swim in for the year.

Afterwards we went to eat dinner in Freeport at some crappy restaurant. They ran out of everything. Burgers-nope, outta that. Specials? We only have 1 left. Soup? Think again. They even ran out of bread rolls for the table! On top of that we had to wait 45 minutes for our food. But it didn't dampen our spirits or ruin the perfect day.

SHUT UP DAWN!

Last night we went to a "Buffy Sing-A-Long" at the IFC Theater (thanks Cel). It was so much fun! It seems they are trying to turn the musical episode, Once More With Feeling!, into The Rocky Horror midnight showings from way back when. We got goodie bags filled with goofy little toys to use at certain times during the show. The best part was the contests beforehand. They had volunteers act out certain scenes from the show and we'd vote on the winner. Also a trivia contest, which I failed miserably, and then the show began. The crowd was really into it and we all sang along throughout and cheered at our favorite parts. The funniest part was yelling out "SHUT UP DAWN" anytime she was in a scene. People were just so hilarious yelling out comments and Henry and I were rolling laughing throughout. David, not so much but he did have a good time. Guess it was a little too much fun for him.

Took forever to find a cab after and didn't get to bed until 3:30am but it was so worth it. Can't wait to do it again!

Roger & Me

My friend Vanessa was nice enough to offer me and extra ticket to see Roger Waters last night at MSG. I knew he was coming when tickets were originally sold but had decided not to go to the show since I'm just not the fan I used to be. But I'm SO glad I went!

He played a wide range of music from the entire Pink Floyd library. We got some Wall, some Wish You Were Here, some Final Cut, some Animals, some of his new stuff (crap) AND, best of all, they performed Dark Side of the Moon in it's entirety! Our view was partially blocked of the screen behind the stage with images throughout but it didn't matter. We DID get to see the giant floating pig, scribbled with politically motivated messages (Impeach Bush Now, Don't Be Lead to the Slaughter, etc). He had a huge ensemble of really talented musicians on stage and they performed perfectly. Even the original drummer Nick Mason showed up for the second half of the show. The crowd (sold out I think) was really into it and it just made the show all that much better. It really brought me back and reminded me of why I used to LOVE them back in the day.

Now if I can just dig up my old cd's and load them onto my iPod I'll be all set!

9/11

I hate today. I hate the memories it brings back. I hate how it forever changed my city, my country and my world. I will and could never forget. But I just can't be reminded constantly by the media. Every channel I turned on this morning had coverage. I don't need to see those images again. And again. And again. I saw them first hand and they could never be wiped from my memory. It's just too difficult. But I know the victims deserve to be remembered, so I will think of them today in my own way.

Crikey

David told me first thing this morning about the death of Steve Irwin. I, like so many others, am so saddened by this news. I mean, I think we all knew he would die someday from injuries due to his way too close for comfort love of animals, but to die so young is such a tragedy. And especially leaving a wife and little children behind.

I remember watching an episode a couple years back where his own dog was dying and wasn't meant to last the night. He curled up next to her on the floor and layed with her until her death the next morning. It was so very touching.

At least we can take comfort in knowing he died doing what he loves the most.

Fall

Fall is here. It may not say it on the calendar, but it's everywhere. In the temperature, the feeling in the air, the change in the angle of the sunlight. Summer is but a memory. But I'm happy! I LOVE the Fall. Pumpkin Spice Lattes have already appeared at Starbucks. I'll be putting away my Summer clothes this weekend and making room for the Fall collection (which I really need to update).

AND, best of all, all my TV series DVD's that we have waited all year for are almost here! Smallville, Grey's Anatomy, and best of all-Battlestar Galactica Season 2.5. I still don't understand how they released half a season first, and now the other half. But whatever, I'll take what I can get.
