Kerry is so very...

Exhausting week. Been doing lots of exercise-1 Pilates class, 2 weight sessions,2 5 mile runs and even 1 swimming session. Feels good. Feels great actually. Maybe I'm trying to reverse my age since it will be going up yet again tomorrow (ugh).

I've been thoroughly enjoying the DNC. Clinton was spectacular, the man could talk his way into a 3rd term. He is such a powerful speaker. Eug said he got chills listening. And that Obama, our future first black president. I hope he goes far. He seems to have the right stuff. Excellent speaker, really spoke from his heart and soul. But I'm nervous for Kerry's speech tonight. They say it is the single most important speech of his life. I hope he doesn't talk for 30 minutes about his Vietnam period. I'm so tired of hearing about it. We all are. ENOUGH KERRY!

I am unbelievably excited for Curiosa on Saturday. I want to get there EXTRA early to secure my spot right front of Robert so I may be touched yet again. I can't say I like the new album though. I think they should've stopped at Bloodflowers. But I love The Cure more than any band so anything they play will be heaven to my ears. He moves me so...

Finished Season 4 of Buffy. It can be summed up with one word-BAH. Yes, it sucked. I don't understand where they went wrong? Seasons 1-3 were awesome. Then Angel went bye bye, and so did the show. With the exception of Hush, Faith's brief return (the ol' switcharoo) and the one where Oz goes bye bye, it was a big ol' suck-o-thon. And I don't care for Willow's new love either. But I hear Season 5 is better. I hope so.

I'm going to watch the Prom episode again now from Season 3. Listened to Sundays "Wild Horses" on the way home and my eyes welled up with tears. Sometimes I feel like I experienced some of the episodes myself. Maybe I'm taking all this a little too seriously. Maybe I'm just getting old and sentimental.

Run Hit Wonder

sea of blue Posted by Hello

Ran the 'Run Hit Wonder' last night in Central Park. I now know what the 'wonder' part is. I'm still wondering where all the bands were!

The park was packed with blue shirts. The race started promptly at 7:10 for the 5K people. I was running with my friend and co-worker Vanessa. She told me she runs slow, so do I. I thought we'd be a perfect match. We weren't. She runs a LOT slower than me. But it was all in good fun and not a race for time so I kept at her pace and we jogged along. The first band was what they called Flock of Seagulls. I call them a lame ass band who did nothing but play keyboards. NO lyrics. NO big hair. NOTHING! So dissapointing. Around mile 2 1/2 I started wondering where all the other bands were. No Kajagoogoo at the beginning like they promised. Then as we got to the last half mile we did pass some dude who was singing so low that no one could hear who he was or what he was playing. A couple happy people stopped to dance around, but we were all pretty clueless.

And that was it. We finished, no band welcoming us back. But boy did everyone stink. It was humid as hell and the humidity went up another 20% with all the sweat rising off of everyone's skin. We cleared out and headed to the afterparty at Morningside Park. Big, gold shiny medals were handed out to everyone. Vanessa commented that its like the Special Olympics, everyone's a winner! We pushed our way into getting bagels, protein snacks, fruit and water, and then chilled listening to Tone Loc, who was pretty good. Played his 2 hits along with a cover of Rapper's Delight. Devo was coming on next but we were sweaty, smelly and tired so we took another handful of snacks and made our way home.

Buttercup Bake Shop-sweet perfection

Last week when I was on my way to meet Eugene to see I Robot I noticed a bake shop on 2nd ave between 51st & 52nd. Being the cupcake freak I am I bought a couple. Oh-My-God! These cupcakes blew Magnolia away. The cake was a perfect combination of moist and crumbly. The icing not too sickeningly sweet. Just perfect. They had a huge variety too including red velvet, devil dog and apple spice (ew!) This is now my favorite cupcake. Well, it ties for first place with Billy's. Magnolia no more. Too many lines, too much pretention, and too much icing!

weddings and cheese

This weekend was all about eating. Well, I guess every weekend is. Friday was Henry's birthday so we celebrated at Aquagrill. We ordered 40 oysters from around the world. Mighty tasty. Best ones were Sister something or other and Kumomotos. We had the perfect combination of some big n' buttery, some briny. The entrees were very tasty as well. The service there is impeccable. The only thing they forgot was Henry's candle. That's ok-we have table votives! Hope your wish comes true.

Saturday we went to Jenny & Erik's wedding. It was on a boat, the Half-Moon, which left from the East side of Manhattan. When we got there the boat was a rockin'. We were all scared to get on. My wonderful husband ran to fetch us some Dramamine. 20 minutes later he returned with 2 packs in hand. I think it really saved us. Thanks David!

The wedding was very sweet. Jenny cried. I think some of us did too. Wonderful words were spoken by the officiant, very heartfelt. Then we ate, drank and watched the amazing view of NYC around us. Very relaxing. Later was the first dance. But the boat was so rocky they couldn't really dance elegantly as they were toppling over left and right. It was sweet.

Afterwards we saw Shrek 2. So much fun. Henry and I especially loved the 3 blind mice. Puss n' Boots wasn't bad either, although I'm not an Antonio Banderas fan. But I think I liked the movie as much as the first. Unusual for a sequel.

We were hungry after the movie so we decided to walk to Korea Town for dumplings. But on the way we passed Artisinal. I've always heard great things about their cheese selection, so we convinced David to go. Food and service was great. We ordered a cheese fondue to start that came with cubes of bread, granny smith apples slices and veggies. The cheese plate that David ordered was heavenly. David had the waiter choose the cheeses and he did not dissapoint. He has a goat cheese that is made only by one old man who lives in Spain. This man does not have any sons and refuses to give the recipe to anyone else. So when he dies, so does the cheese. That story made the cheese taste even better. Also on his platter was a sheeps milk cheese that was light and spongy, a cheese that had cayenne pepper and had the consistency that was similar to fudge. And then there were to blues on their that rocked our world. So powerful. David said he'd like to go back there once a week and try different cheeses every time. Nice idea.

Purple Shame

Since I loved Tuesday's Prince show at MSG so much I decided to look for tickets for the Wednesday night performance on Ticketmaster. As I suspected it was sold out, but i noticed an after party at BB King's for midnight. I called Eugene, and as tired as he was he also needed another dose of him. So I ran over and got tickets. I was also able to talk David into going, believe it or not.

We arrived at around 12:15am. The box office lady told me he had shown up around midnight the night before so we didn't want to get there too late. Went right in since we already had tickets (I felt like a VIP!) and the place was packed. Hip-hop jamming, people dancing and pushing for the bartenders attention. Got our drinks and waited. And waited. 1am. 2am. 3am. Word got around that he was over in the corner chilling with his peeps. We could actually see him walking back n' forth. We were getting really excited. They began to play the concert from Monday nights MSG show on the 2 screens they had set up. The sound was awesome. Sheila E was also there and stood up as they played her part on the big screens. She looked awesome. I was glad David got see part of the show as he's a huge Prince and Maceo fan.

Then some idiot had the idea of yelling "WE WANT PRINCE, WE WANT PRINCE" over and over. 10 minutes later His Purple Majesty went back behind the stage with some others we couldn't recognize. We got REALLY REALLY excited. Cheers, clapping, hollerin', the works.

But he never came back. The DJ finally made an announcement at 3:50am: Prince has left the building. Really.

Bastard.

"So much man, in such a little body"

(quote from concert-goer after the show)

I'm still coming down from last night's Prince concert at MSG. He played for almost 3 hours. We even received free CD's of his new album as we arrived!

He is such a little firecracker. Red seemed to be the theme of the evening. He emerged from below the stage in a suit that was half red in the front, half black in the back. Opened with his new funky song Musicology. Then went into a Purple Rain/greatest hits medley that I didn't care for. He did the same when we saw him years ago. I'd prefer to hear a few really good FULL songs than snipets. But it was not a problem. He dissapeared, changed his shirt (red, but more gold chains and chest hairs) and came back and rocked our world with a slow jam (don't know the name) that made me all warm and, um, fuzzy inside. He had a great band with him including Maceo Parker. Many of the songs they did turned into jam sessions that lasted well over 10 minutes. He is so freakin' amazing on guitar. I could actually go to a show and just watch him play his guitar all night long. He's incredibly entertaining and plays the crowd well, especially the women. The man is like 50 and still makes women scream when he unbuttons his shirt and gives us a peek of his chest. But we got the full view tonight! Nipples and all. He is the embodiment of sex. He oozes it. And he has the cutest little smile I've ever seen.

Highlights included an acoustic set that began with Little Red Corvette, Raspberry Beret and Seven (awesome!)

My wknd with no money

99.9% completed puzzle Posted by Hello

My new puzzle, with ALL the pieces!

Ran out of money Friday. I mean really ran out of money. Like, no overdraft, no $10 found in my coat pocket, nothing. So I did what anybody does when they run out of cash-I finished my puzzle! Well, except for one, freakin' missing piece. And of course it was a right-smack-dab-in-the-middle piece. I searched everywhere. Under the couch, under the radiator, cat litter. It was nowhere to be found. Celvyn, I know you took it b/c you're pissed I won all your money. Just give it back you bastard!

Friday night we ate hard boiled eggs for dinner. It was all we had left. Saturday I went for a run in around the Reservoir a couple of times. Saw my favorite person, the unofficial "Mayor of Central Park" Alberto Arroyo. He is always there. I mean always. He's been there since the beginning-the first runner around the reservoir. I could run at 6am, 12 noon or 7pm-he is there. I decided to finally look him up online. Turns out the man is 88 years old. 88! He's run so much in his lifetime that he can't do it anymore. He just goes around the reservoir with his cane. Always smiling and waving at everyone. He's always there for encouragement-telling you you're doing great, keep it up. I can't imagine running and not seeing him. YOU GO ALBERTO!

Saturday night we went to Johnny Rockets for dinner. Cheap and they take credit cards. Damn those burgers are so freakin' tasty. They must be crack infused or something. They are my #1 burger. Sorry Corner Bistro-but you don't use relish and mustard. And thats what its all about.

Sunday we defrosted and cleaned the fridge. Took about 3 hours. But that fridge is so clean you could eat off of it. Well, I guess you kinda do. But now for some reason its not cooling so well. Did we knock something loose when we were banging the ice chunks out of the freezer? Uh oh.

Watched tons of Buffy episodes looking for a good, meaningful, satisfying one. We're on Season 4 and its just not doing it for us. Could the magic really be gone? No, its not. Because last nights' episode had a special visitor. You know what I'm talkin' bout Henry. Oh yeah! A visitor from above you might say ;-)

Meat, Shlag and Sad Goodbyes

Went to Peter Luger's tonight for a goodbye dinner for Sarah. Stuffed our faces with the most tender, juicy, buttery, drippy, messy and delicious steak ever. We even picked up the bones and passed around trying to get out the tender 'elbow' meat. Finished off the meal with dessert and shlag. Shlag is thick, freshly whipped cream in a huge bowl. Soooo good. But the event was in honor of Sarah and her new voyage to Palo Alto, California. So sad to say goodbye. But it is such an opportunity for Larry, Sarah and Kiki that is was worth saying goodbye to the Big Apple. So goodbye Sarah. We will miss you so dearly. And you better have a pool built by the time we come to visit ;-) WE LOVE YOU

I can't believe the weekend's over and I'm back at work. It did seem like a long break though. We got out early on Friday. 2:00-what a treat! Went shopping around town with my friend/co-worker Vanessa. It was nice doing girly shopping. I rarely get to do that due to the lack of female friends I have. I miss it. Then she came home with me to borrow my bike for a bit. Poor thing. Bike too big, her legs too short, and a nasty thunderstorm brewing overhead made for an awful time getting home. She planned to ride through the park but ended up dragging the thing through the subway.

Saw Spiderman 2. Now what's all the hype about? It was OK. Just OK. Too boring I thought. Too much mopey Tobey and not enough swinging Spidey. Not nearly enough. But Dr. Octopus was great. That love story between Spidey & MJ is so unbelievable too. Even I didn't cry. I think he lost his powers b/c he's not getting any action. Bah.

Saturday we joined up with Eugene and went to Long Island City to see the Noguchi Museum. Beautiful place. Although the garden could've been larger. But the 2nd floor is amazing and transported me to another world. It was also a cool retreat from the blazing heat outside. The White Castle sliders, fries n' Coke we got on the way helped too :) Damn those burgers are tasty.

Ended up playing some Texas Hold'em Saturday night and winning both-read it-BOTH rounds. Oh yeah baby. I'm unstoppable! Henry was busy downloading porn and Matthew busy mad snacking and taking up the whole couch. So it was down to me and Celvyn. No problem there. You can come by anytime Cel and just drop off your cash. Thanks buddy!

Sunday walked around town w/ Eric n husband. The city was so empty, it was kind of creepy. Walked all the way down the west side along the water. Saw the fireworks from Battery Park which was a nice change. Really pretty seeing them explode over the Statue of Liberty.

Went to a cool bar afterwards in Tribeca called Anotheroom. GREAT beer and wine selection. Cool music. Low lighting. No pretention. It was a perfect end to our night. Good choice Eugene. Happy Birthday USA!

Wild Horses couldn't drag me away...

Finished Season 3 last night. Whew, what an emotional roller coaster. I don't think I've ever cried so much watching a TV series. This show just does not dissapoint. It is never predictable, always a surprise around every corner. And don't even get me started on Buffy and Angel love story. Everytime they are together I get tears in my eyes. Henry, bring on Season 4!  Posted by Hello
