My weekend

Friday we stayed home and watched X-Files reruns. Damn I loved that show when it was on. And it still holds up. FX is showing them pretty much in order and I've been DVR'ing them. I panic that I will fill up the hard drive so on the wknd I try to watch as many things as I can to make room.

Saturday we went shopping for clothes at Club Monaco. Big sale. Of course what I selected wasn't on sale. Go figure. Then we met up w/ Henry and had wine at The Cub Room in Soho. I love that place. I always feel like I'm in a ski lodge somewhere out West. Not that I've ever been skiing out West but whatever.

We then walked up Hudson and stopped at Jacques Torres Chocolate Haven. OMIGOD. Now that is some damn fine chocolate. I got the chocolate chip cookie which was pure perfection. Moist and chewy. So fresh. Definitely the best CC cookie I've ever had. We also stopped in at In the Kitchen (or is it Out of the Kitchen?) to get cupcakes. I've heard from David and Henry that their cupcakes are tops. I was skeptical. Eugene said they were nasty. Well I don't know because they were sold out. Billy's is never sold out. Buttercup Bakeshop is never sold out. This place already sucked in my mind. We did get a cookie sandwich that had the 'magical frosting' in the middle so I could try. After 2 bites I was done. Tasty, kinda. But way too overwhelmingly sweet and gross. Sorry guys, it's not even in my top 3.

Then we headed over to the best place EVER Mexicana Mama. Waited over an hour but hot damn was it worth it. The food is so amazing. Henry loved it. Mike S also stopped by for a drink and dessert w/ us. The waitress scolded him until we explained that he is only drinking, not eating. I don't blame her. The place (which only seats 20) was packed out with diners and people waiting. One bite of their food and you will see why.

Sunday we lounged around the apt watching TV (stupid Tomb Raider 2) and then we went down to 18th st and I bought cooking tools at Williams Sonoma. Even though my kitchen sucks I still want the proper tools to make a decent dinner. Then we went over to buy even more cooking stuff at Bed Bath & Beyond. I got a nifty splatter screen to put over the fry pan so the oil doesn't burn me. Then we went home and David made gnocchi w/ pesto. The pesto was great. The gnocchi wasn't. Oh well, you learn from your mistakes. Then we watched the Oscars and I really enjoyed it. Chris Rock was filarious.

Monday's suck.

Seriously.

Season 1

Tonight we will finish Season 1 of 24. Wow. When we watched disc one it was so good we watched 4 episodes in one night. Each episode is like a full feature thriller movie. It's unbelievable how much they pack into each episode and into the season as a whole. I can't wait for Season 2.

Hurry up Henry!

Vanilla Mint

I'm in love with Crest Vanilla Mint Toothpaste. Tastes so good I feel like it's wrong to brush my teeth with it. And who doesn't like the gool ol' fashioned scratch n' sniff label on the box?

Mmmmm, vanilla.

Time Warner aint so bad after all

The tech came at 6:30pm last night. I was ready. Luckily my coworker reminded me to make sure they bring a new box with them as they usually come unprepared. So I had called Time Warner earlier in the day to request a new box. And they delivered.

Just as the CABLE GUY! came up the stairs my nosey and loud upstairs neighbor was also coming up with her 6 yr old son (that looks like he's 12). She said she had a remote control that didn't work and for me to ask him if he had any extras. A few minutes later her and her son came down and into my apt (which I didn't care for). She had their remote in her hand. The thing looked like it had been chewed by wild dogs. I always knew they were crazy. She bugged the guy for at least 15 min asking for a remote. He continually told her they don't carry them. She continually asked. It was ridiculous. I just wanted them out and my new box in.

Finally they left and he exchanged my old box for a brand new, state of the art, DVR box. They have recently upgraded them. This one actually fits in my space, has better picture, is faster, and you can search your shows by keyword or letter. Just like Tivo! Nice!

So of course the first thing I did was set up to record my Buffy's. I now feel so relaxed and actually got to work on time instead of getting here late because I'm too into Buffy to leave the apt.

Oh, and Survivor was AWESOME last night. I think this season will rock. They've already changed it up a lot and shocked the hell out of everyone involved.

I love TV. Maybe a little too much.

DVR-Part 3

Tonight is the night. CAAABLE GUYYY (forever said to the tune of the movie) is coming from 6-9pm. I am leaving work early in order to be home on time, unlike last week.

I have been told by my coworker (Hi Clancy!) that I should get Tivo, it blows Time Warner away. But I will give this DVR one last chance. If I have ANY problems I am sending that shit up the creek and getting myself a shiny new Tivo box.

Carlee does it!

Carlee, a German shorthaired pointer

We watched the end of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show last night. I knew when I saw her that she was something special. Not like that ratty little terrier coco with her lame ass pregnancy story. Carlee had more poise than any dog out there. She walked so elegantly. Pure breed perfection.

I almost wept with joy as they announced the winner. You go girl! Even if you are from Nazi-land.

The Gates

I must say. I like the Gates. But I don't love the Gates. It's pretty. And I think all art is good art. But, if I may be picky, which I may, because it's my own damn blog, I don't love the color. Too...Home Depot. Too construction truck orange. I was hoping for a softer orange. And I don't like the pleats in the fabric. I think it would be softer and flowier without the pleats. But in all it is beautiful, especially when seen from above or afar. And especially on a windy day. And the orange against the grey of the trees is stunning. I recommend entering the park from 59th St and walking up.

Guess what we did yesterday?

I hate Time Warner

I rushed home last night to meet the cable guy. He was due between 6-9pm. I get off of work at 6:00. So I bolted home and was in the door by 6:30. I checked the VM and only had one message from Time Warner earlier in the day confirming the app't. Phew. I made it. So I waited.

Around 6:45 I checked my caller ID and noticed there was a call from Time Warner at 6:10pm. Uh oh. I called them back and asked if the tech was still coming. She put me on hold. I started getting nervous. She came back on and said he was there at 6:10 and there was no answer. He said he called and left a message. There was no message at 6:10 I told her. She put me on hold again to see if he could come back out. After a minute of waiting she said they only go back if I call within 15 minutes. DAMMIT! If I called as soon as I got home I would've had a new DVR cable box that actually works. Instead I have a piece o' crap box that doesn't record ANYTHING.

We rescheduled for next Thursday. I told her I was very unhappy. I felt like I was going to cry. I'm so tired of this crap not working. It's funny. 2 weeks ago I didn't even have the ability to record shows. But now that I had it for a little while, then it was taken away from me, I'm a raving lunatic! And of course most of this anger is based on my not being able to tape my Buffy episodes.

Maybe I'll go down to the Time Warner Center tomorrow and wait another 2 hrs for a new box.

Bastards.

Happy Birthday Dad

Wishing you a year of good health and happiness.

24

I finally joined Netflix this morning at 7:30AM. Put season 1 of "24" in my queue. Got up early to catch one of my favorite Buffy episodes "Seeing Red" on FX. Why do I have to get up early when I have a DVR you ask? Because my DVR box is a piece of shit and does not record anything. The cable guy is coming tonight to fix it and give me a new box. I will be sure to get some kind of credit for this. I had recorded almost the entire season 6 of Buffy on FX and the box has deleted them all. Hopefully after tonight this will be resolved. If not, I will personally raise all hell at Time Warner.

Winnings

So I went to collect my Superbowl pool winnings from my buddy Danny, who also happened to be the person that gets my other half. As I went to get it, a coworker asked me if I'm going to tip him. What? Tip him? Why?

Apparently it's customary to tip the person who handles the betting 10%. That would mean he would get $50 of my winnings. Hell no! Has anyone else heard of this?

So the total winnings was about $2,000 between everyone. Does that mean that he expects $200 for printing a piece of paper, having everyone sign their name on it, and holding their money? If that's the case then I'm in the wrong profession!

(oh, and I did not tip him. I told him that getting my other half of the loot was a tip enough. I picked the box!)

Happy Birthday ESP!

Today is Dr. Eric Stephen Postal's birthday.

Champagne wishes and caviar dreams to you!

I want a baby

There. I said it.

No, we're not trying yet. But I'm getting excited. At the party on Saturday I was talking to the women (who all have kids) and Donna told me what I've heard hundreds of times. When you have a baby, you realize that you never thought you could love something so much. Donna said she still cries sometimes when she's just sitting with Angel alone and thinks "we made this". Crazy.

So no trying until later in the year. But I've been reading new mother blogs and hearing of all the pains and gains of having a new baby. Some of it scary, real scary. But the rewards sound so worth it.

SUPER!Bowl

I won the Superbowl pool at work!!! How much you ask? $1,000 bucks!!!! Yes, $1,000 bucks!

Problem is, I have to split it with someone because I was too damn cheap to pay the $20 fee for a whole box. That's what I get for being a cheap bastard. But whatever-I still get $500 more than I had yesterday!

WOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Coaching

We went to a get together at my friend Lina's house in da Bronx yesterday. It was a Scooby Gang/her man's birfday/Black History Month Soul food fest. Everyone brought something soulful. There was fried chicken, cornbread, mac n' cheese, homemade ham, fried plantains (had to get some Puerto Rican flavor in there), collared greens, potato salad and my contribution-Ceaser Salad. Yes, I know it's not soul food. But it was requested so I picked some up from Carmine's.

My friend Sean brought the collared greens and potato salad. The collared greens stunk up the 2 train on the way up there. Really stunk it up. And it was leaking all over the place. So by the time we ate, I was in no mood to eat that stuff. Yeeysh!

Almost everyone in the Scooby Gang went (minus Celvyn, that bastard). We had a great time. Food, food and more food. We watched DVD's that her man made of past parties. Pin-the-tale-on-the-donkey was played. And of course I won! Woohoo!

Our friends Donna & Jason brought there perfect baby Angel. Angel has discovered how to walk so he was off running the whole night. They also brought they're latest addition, still in Donna's tummy. She's 4 months preggo and showing a lot already. That's what you get when you're a size 2!

The best part of the night is when Donna asked David & I if we'd like to be her labor coach. Would I??? I would love to! This is so perfect. I've never been in a hospital before, except of course my own birth, which I don't remember too well. The whole pregnancy thing seems very exciting to me except for the delivery part. This is a perfect way for me to see what it's all about. Plus it is such an honor to be asked.

So her due date is July 14th. We have a Block Island trip scheduled for July 2-6. I told her she's not allowed to have the baby until we return.

February 05, 2005

(insert title here)

David came home feeling miserable last night. We ended up going to sleep at 10pm. On a Friday! Unheard of in our household. So of course I was up by 7:30AM this morning. Even more unusual. Worst of all I feel phlegmy and my throat hurts a bit. Uh oh. I hope I'm not getting sick. I havent' been sick in a long time. But someone at work has the flu and then David has a cold or something. Damn. Must take Vitamin C.

I'm also thinking of making another blog. A more private blog. So some prying eyes don't see.

Thursday

Too bad it's not Friday. But soon enough. Soon enough.

Eugene is in Denver seeing his first ever brand spankin' new nephew.

Celvyn is a goofy bastard.

Henry is bleeding.

David is full from all the tacos I made him.

Rachel has a fab new job and will hopefully live to see it.

Simone is smiling with satisfaction because she just watched the Buffy musical. Again.

Bring on the weekend!

Wardrobe malfunction

Funny superbowl ad. Too bad they won't show it. Bastards.
